We don’t know for sure. All of the reviews on Amazon would have you believe that beard growth pills are some kind of miracle cure. That anyone who takes a beard vitamin will be able to fill in those patches and grow a long and full beard. But, there’s no scientific evidence, just yet, of its effectiveness.

How effective is it? That’s up for debate but, we know that biotin is important to keratin production which is responsible for hair and nail growth. In fact, if you don’t get enough biotin the result is hair loss and brittle nails. But, those are rare cases.

Why does everyone claim biotin helps beard growth?

Does biotin increase facial hair growth?

Not exactly. It helps with keratin production.

Your hair and nails are made of keratin which not only protects our cells but helps repair them too. And it’s responsible for cell growth. Growing your beard, hair, and nails.

Biotin aids in the production of keratin and improves the building blocks of our hair. Having a healthy amount of biotin in your diet will make sure your beard grows strong.

What’s a healthy amount of biotin? Where do I get it from?

Can I get biotin from my diet?

Yes, you can! There are a bunch of foods that have biotin. They are:

Eggs, meats, dairy, and nuts.

But, is that enough? If you look up nutrients for certain foods you’ll see that for example, an egg has 8 mcg of biotin. One serving size of a beard vitamin has about 5000 mcg depending on which one you’re looking at. Just a small difference right?

Raw egg whites actually reduce our bodies absorption rate of biotin. This is because they contain a specific protein called avidin.

Biotin alone isn’t enough for beard growth

There are a number of other vitamins that are also needed by your body. And that’s why taking a supplement focused on beard growth is better than just taking a biotin pill.

Don’t forget about getting plenty of sleep, exercising, and minimizing stress.

Is biotin safe and what are the side effects?

Beard growth with biotin. Find out how this natural vitamin will help you grow your beard faster!

It is water soluble. That means that it dissolves in water. Biotin isn’t stored in our bodies. So what our body doesn’t use, it gets rid of. It’s the reason why your body needs a steady flow of biotin every day. You can still take too much! More on that below.

Biotin is completely safe. It’s a natural vitamin that your body needs and uses for many functions. It’s found in many foods as well. Because of that, there are no side effects at all unless you take way too much. And I mean WAY too much. It’s the perfect vitamin for growing your beard naturally.

Also, biotin will not work in spots where there are no hair follicles. So don’t stress over growing hair on your fingertips. It doesn’t quite work like that. However, it may help spur growth in spots where you have follicles but don’t have as much beard. But, if there are no follicles there, nothing will grow. Unfortunately, genetics play a major role in determining how your beard or lack thereof will grow. So, your mileage may vary. Biotin is helpful but it is no miracle pill.

What can I expect from taking biotin?

How much does biotin help beard growth?

There is no science to back up the claim that a biotin pill will improve your beard. The only thing we have to go on is the opinions of those who have tried it. And those are varied. You have some men say it greatly improved their beards in terms of thickness and speed of growth. Or that biotin has helped fill in their patchy areas.

Other men say it’s snake oil. A scam to get your money. Unfortunately, most beard growth products don’t work.

What’s my opinion on it? I would say if you are having trouble getting the growth you want and your diet isn’t as healthy as it should be, give it a shot. I think it’s worth the potential benefit of growing a great beard. If it doesn’t work for you chalk it up to a one-time loss.

Don’t expect it to work immediately.

How long does it take for biotin to start working?

It takes about a month to notice any changes to your beard. But, everyone’s different. So if you don’t notice any difference in the first week, don’t worry! It takes a little time to notice changes.

Do the effects of biotin last forever?

Do I have to keep taking it after I start?

Your beard won’t fall out or anything if you stop taking it. That said, any new beard growth won’t reap the same benefits you may have or have not gotten when you were taking it. Your beard growth will go back to how it was before you started taking it.

How much should biotin should I take for my beard?

The daily recommended dose of biotin is between 30-100 micrograms (mcg).

Beard vitamins claim that you’ll want to take more than the daily recommended dose to boost your hair growth. Most biotin supplements contain between 2.5 milligrams (mg) and 5 mg (2500 – 5000 mcg). Some even have up to 10 mg. 10 mg of biotin is 10,000 mcg. That’s obviously much higher. And while it is much higher, it’s still completely safe.

But, 10 mg is about the threshold that you wouldn’t want to go above.

A beard vitamin is a guaranteed steady stream of the vitamins your body needs daily.

Can I take too much biotin?

Yes, you can take too much but, it’s not easy to do. Biotin is water soluble. It dissolves in water. So your body should get rid of what it’s not using but, you can still take too much. You really have to try though. There are no side effects until you start to exceed 10 mg or 10,000 mcg. In fact, they make pills that contain 10 mg of biotin. Overdose symptoms include rashes, vitamin deficiencies other than biotin of course, and higher blood sugar levels.

What if my beard won’t grow at all?

Just to be clear, biotin will most likely not promote new growth. It will just aid the growth you already have. If you need to promote new growth biotin is not what you’re looking for.

For that, you may need to turn to other methods such as Rogaine.

Do I need to take a beard growth vitamin

There’s no evidence that it works other than the opinions of those who have tried it.

If you feel your diet is lacking in vitamins and minerals, pick up a multi-vitamin or a beard vitamin. They’re essentially the same thing but, have different amounts of nutrients.
